The Straight Answer

Pop Sells Is Legitimate, and the Reviews Say Exactly What You'd Expect From 35,000 Transactions

Pop Sells is a real, 17-year-old company with an A+ Better Business Bureau rating, a 4.7 out of 5 TrustScore across more than 2,200 Trustpilot reviews, and a publicly listed parent company, CAR Group Limited (ASX: CAR). It is not a scam. It is a secure marketplace that has closed more than 35,000 boat and RV transactions since 2009. This page puts all of it in one place — the ratings, the numbers, what people praise, what people complain about, and what I tell my own clients about each — with links to every source so you can check it yourself.

Pop's own reported figure4.5 / 53,000+ reviewsPop's published average across platforms through 2023.

Put together, that is roughly 3,800 public reviews averaging between 4.5 and 4.7 stars, plus 26 formal BBB complaints over the same three years in which Pop closed roughly 9,000 transactions (3,224 in 2024 alone, per Pop's published figures). Fewer than one in 300 transactions — about 0.3% — resulted in a BBB complaint, and every one received a company response. The complaints that involve the unit's condition after purchase are almost always cases where the buyer skipped the survey or inspection that Pop recommends and writes into every purchase agreement. Across a network of more than 250 consultants, that is the profile of a large legitimate business, not a problem company.

What the Five-Star Reviews Say

The pattern in the positive reviews is consistent and it is about people, not the platform. Reviewers name their consultant and their closing agent. They describe buying an RV in Washington from New Hampshire on the strength of a video walkthrough and a consultant who handled repairs and shipping; a second RV sold through the same rep with a closing that "went real smooth and fast" and a wire that arrived securely; a first-time buyer who had never heard of the company and came away calling it "a great team of true professionals." The recurring words are communication, professionalism, and the closing team handling the paperwork for the buyer's state. That matches how the model is built: the consultant runs the deal and the closing department runs the money and the title.

What the One-Star Reviews Say

Seven percent of Trustpilot reviewers gave one star, and I'd rather you read those than pretend they don't exist. They fall into three groups.

Unit condition after purchase. The most serious complaints are buyers who received a boat or RV with problems the listing didn't disclose — air conditioners or a generator that don't work, for example. This is the central risk of any for-sale-by-owner marketplace: Pop advertises the unit and the seller represents its condition. It is exactly why Pop writes an inspection right into every Purchase & Sale agreement and why you can walk away with your deposit before final acceptance. The buyers with the worst outcomes are, almost without exception, buyers who skipped the survey or inspection. Don't skip it. If you're buying through me, I'll tell you what to have the inspector look at.

Communication gaps. Some sellers report slow responses or a consultant who went quiet after listing. With more than 250 consultants, service quality varies by individual. The weekly activity report exists so you can see whether your listing is being worked; if it isn't, ask for a different consultant.

The sign-up gate. A few reviewers are irritated that popsells.com asks for contact information before showing full listing details. That's a real friction point and a legitimate complaint about the website, not the service. For what it's worth, Pop's privacy policy limits use of that information to running your account, sending you listing updates and matching advertisements, responding to your inquiries, fraud protection, and Pop's own marketing; it is shared only with the service providers that operate Pop's site and advertising, and you can opt out of sharing at any time through the "Do Not Sell or Share" link on popsells.com.

The BBB Complaints, Specifically

The BBB record is the most useful single source because it is structured. Of the 26 complaints closed in the last three years, 12 are categorized as service issues, 8 as sales and advertising, 5 as product issues, and 1 as delivery (BBB complaint detail). Fifteen are marked "answered" and eleven "resolved." Pop responds to every complaint with a written explanation; some customers accept the response and some don't, which is normal. What you will not find is a pattern of money going missing — the closing department's escrow process is the part of the business that generates the fewest complaints, which is the part that matters most.

Is Pop Sells a Scam? The Forum Question

If you search the company you will find old forum threads asking whether Pop Yachts was "brokers or scammers." Those threads date from the company's early years and mostly reflect sellers surprised by the exclusivity terms in the marketing agreement, or buyers who expected a traditional broker who had physically inspected the boat. Neither is a scam; both are things you should understand before you sign, which is why the how it works and fees pages exist. The company that exists today has a BBB A+ rating, an accredited profile, 17 years of operating history, and was acquired in May 2025 by CAR Group Limited, an ASX-listed company, after due diligence. Public companies do not pay AUD 42.4 million for scams.

How to Have a Five-Star Experience

Read the reviews and the advice writes itself. As a buyer: get the survey or inspection, use your walk-away right if it turns up something material, and let the closing team handle funds and title rather than wiring anyone directly. As a seller: price within the market data, respond to your consultant quickly, read your weekly activity report, and understand the exclusivity terms before you sign. As either: work with a consultant who answers the phone. I've been doing this with Pop Sells since 2015 and my number is at the bottom of this page.

No. It is a 17-year-old company with an A+ BBB rating, thousands of public reviews averaging 4.5 to 4.7 stars, an in-house title and escrow department, and a publicly listed parent company. Old forum threads questioning it mostly reflect sellers who did not read the exclusivity terms or buyers who skipped the inspection.

The most common complaints are units that had undisclosed problems after purchase (usually where the buyer skipped the survey or inspection), slow communication from an individual consultant, and the website asking for contact information before showing full listing details.

Reviewers most often praise their individual consultant's communication and professionalism, the closing team's handling of paperwork and funds for out-of-state transactions, and how smooth and fast the closing was.
